Loneliness Awareness Week was set up by The Marmalade Trust as a reminder to us all how the effects of loneliness can be devasting for many individuals.
Our Special Friends understands that animals make us feel connected and cared for. Pets, especially dogs and cats can reduce stress, anxiety and depression, and ease loneliness. Our volunteers visit many of our clients who may have been referred to us because they are suffering from symptoms that often come as a result of loneliness. A regular visit from a volunteer with their friendly visiting dog can make all the difference and can give someone a new relationship with an animal companion and a regular visit to look forward to.
The Marmalade Trust is dedicated to recognising loneliness and helping people make new friendships. They offer resources, help, videos and stories to help share and understand the implications of loneliness.
