Recruiting for a new Animal Companionship Coordinator

We are thrilled to announce that we are recruiting for a new Animal Companionship Coordinator.

THE CHARITY

Our Special Friends (OSF), based in offices at The British Racing School, Snailwell, Newmarket is a charity that aims to help people benefit from the companionship of animals and support them through difficult times. We provide practical advice and emotional support to individuals who are having difficulty caring for their pet or who are missing the companionship of an animal. We coordinate local community support to help people to enjoy the companionship of animals without the worry.

OVERVIEW OF JOB DESCRIPTION / MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

· To assess and manage cases/enquiries alongside the head office team to ensure that services are delivered efficiently and effectively

· Assessing cases on first contact from the public/clients/support agencies

· Working closely with the Volunteer Support Manager to ensure that volunteers are well supported in their role

· Identifying opportunities to recruit new volunteers in the defined area and OSF’s operational region

· Participating in/coordinating volunteer onboarding, training and meetings

· To manage networks and partnerships with relevant organisations in the community to support the delivery of our services

· To address issues arising from cases and volunteers in the community, and liaise with the office on appropriate action

· Casework management including regular review of ongoing cases including case discussion with colleagues and volunteers

· Be conversant with all OSF procedures and ensure compliance

· Provide signposting opportunities as necessary using your local knowledge and experience, you may be aware of local agencies that might benefit a client

· Database entry and maintenance of records

· Working with colleagues and volunteers to ensure information is up to date

· To undertake other such duties and responsibilities commensurate with the role as and when required.

Person Specification (with a range of desirable experience, skills, knowledge)

Experience

§ Working in the charity sector

§ Managing volunteers

§ Experience of working in a grassroots organisation

§ Providing a service to the general public, in particular vulnerable adults

§ Experience of working in or with the veterinary profession or animal welfare sector

§ Case management experience

§ Experience of working with databases

§ Experience of working in a team, collaborating with internal and external colleagues

§ Good understanding of one or more of social services structures: health and social care, mental health services

Skills

§ Excellent written and verbal communication skills

§ Proficient in the use of IT, including Microsoft Office applications

§ Strong organisational skills, with an ability to plan and prioritise own work

§ Good time management skills

§ Able to work on own initiative and work well and exercise good decision-making under pressure

§ Excellent attention to detail

§ Flexible attitude and a positive and outgoing personality

§ Sympathetic to the aims and ethos of OSF, in particular the human-animal bond

§ Ability to maintain confidentiality

§ Ability to develop professional and productive relationships with a range of stakeholders

§ Sensitive and effective interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence

§ Ability to exercise initiative and work independently but also as a member of team

Knowledge

§ Interest in human and animal health and welfare

§ Good understanding of veterinary care services

Qualifications

§ GCSEs, industry experience or equivalent

§ Full clean driving licence and independent transport

Job Type: Fixed term contract
Contract length: 10 months

Pay: £21,500.00-£26,000.00 per year
